CHARLES TOWN — At the request of the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County, the county commission held a public budget forum at 7 p.m. Feb. 6, 2018, in the county commission meeting room (ground floor of Charles Town Library). The purpose of the forum was to provide information on the upcoming FY19 budget and explain the budget process to the public. Staff and commissioners took questions from the audience. It was clear from the presentation, that there is a gap between the amount needed to operate the many functions of county government and the expected revenue stream. Many questions centered on the need to create more funding sources and the commission and staff explained the limitations on use of impact fees and grants. Work sessions for Jefferson County’s 2019 fiscal year budget will take place at the County Commission meeting room at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 12 and at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16.
Organizations with budget requests will present them during these budget work sessions. People who are interested but cannot come and observe the process may watch as it is live streamed on the County website, www.jeffersoncountywv.org/find-it-fast/agendas-minutes-and-webcasts.
