Voter Education Event: It’s All About You
The Jefferson County Branch of the NAACP is sponsoring “It’s All About YOU!” a voter education event on Saturday, May 20, 2017 9:30am-1:00pm at the County Commission Meeting Room in the basement of the Old Charles Town Library, 200 E. Washington Street (intersection of N. Samuel and E. Washington Streets; access to Meeting Room is on N. Samuel Street).
“It’s important that people know that this event is for and about Voters, not candidates! Here is their chance to learn about the new voting equipment here in Jefferson County and to try it out. And for those who want to learn about the voting process or even register to vote, this is the perfect opportunity,” said MaryLois Gannon-Miller, one of the NAACP event organizers.
Nikki Painter, Jefferson County Chief Deputy Clerk Voter and Elections, will be on hand to give a brief presentation on the new equipment, describing its ease of use, ADA compliance and security features at 10:00am, 11:00am and noon. After each presentation there will be sufficient time and materials available for people to practice voting on the new equipment.
Voter Registration forms and representatives from the League of Women Voters (LWV) will also be at the event to help those who want to register to vote.
“Government affects so many aspects of our lives, but voting gives us the opportunity to directly affect government. We want events like these to educate and empower people to make their voices heard and their votes count,” said Gannon-Miller.
